4 Fantastic Reasons to Visit Loveland, Colorado this Spring

Spring is one of the best times of years to visit Colorado. Along the Front Range, the trees are a minty green and the fields a rich, dark emerald. For a month or so, parts of the state look as lush as Ireland. Loveland is no exception.

So, why visit Loveland, Colorado in the spring? It’s more than just the natural beauty of the area, there are fun and cultural springtime events and gorgeous trails and parks to explore.

Walk a Portion of the Loveland Recreation Trail System

This past Sunday, Ryan and I walked a portion of the Loveland Recreation Trail System between Wilson Avenue and Hwy 287. We’d had a bit of a crazy Saturday and this was the perfect place to unwind. We saw geese and ducks on the river and the birds were out in force among the cottonwoods along the trail.

This part of the trail system follows the Little Thompson River, making it the perfect place to see wildlife, especially birds. Last year, I even spotted a small herd of elk hanging out in the river near Taft Avenue. A large portion of this trail system is paved making it easy to bike or even roller blade.

Visit the Colorado Governor’s Art Show

One of Loveland’s most special art events occurs annually in the spring. The Colorado Governor’s Art Show & Sale kicks off with a gala event in April and continues through May.

The show is a collection of some of the most incredible artists in Colorado. Ryan and I have been attending this art show for many years and it never ceases to impress.

While the show takes place at the Loveland Museum Gallery, the Plein Art Festival, in association with the event, takes place all over Loveland. On May 20, fifty artists will set up their easels around the area, from The Promenade Shops at Centerra near I25 to Sweetheart City Wines, west of town.

This day of live action art culminates with an auction of the paintings completed during the event. The auction will be held at the Rialto Theater in downtown Loveland starting at 5 p.m.

Attend the Front Range Rally

There are two good reasons to be in Loveland on May 20, 2017. In addition to the Plein Air Festival, the Front Range Rally will be in full swing at the Food Bank for Larimer County.

This is craft beer and food truck rally that’s become one of Northern Colorado’s most anticipated (and largest) beer events.

With 44 breweries signed up to attend, along with nine vendors featuring cider, mead and spirits and ten food trucks, there’s a little something for everyone at the Front Range Rally.

Stroll the Sculpture Garden

One of my favorite places to visit during springtime in Loveland is the Benson Sculpture Garden. I’ve written about it on this blog before, but that’s because I believe it’s one of Loveland’s best treasures that’s hidden in plain sight.

According to Sculpture in the Park’s website, “It has been recognized as ‘one of the 200 most important modern and contemporary art sites in the world’ and as ‘one of the 20 must-see contemporary art sites across the USA.’” I couldn’t agree more.

Whether you live in Loveland or are just visiting, the Benson Sculpture Garden makes an excellent springtime excursion in this artsy Northern Colorado city.
